Workplace Eye Wellness

Wednesday, March 17, 2021 Natalie Salem

March 2021 is Workplace Eye Wellness Month. Your eye health and safety affect everything in your life. An eye injury can cause long lasting effects to not just your physical health, but your mental health, and well as your financial health. According to the CDC, every day about 2,000 workers in the United States sustain a job-related eye injury that requires medical attention.

Some ways you can prevent eye injury in the workplace are:

  1. Eliminate eye hazards by using engineering controls such as machine guards, work screens, etc.
  2. Ensure you or your employees always wear the appropriate safety eyewear even if just in the vicinity of a hazard or walking through a hazardous area.
  3. Wear eye protection if you are working in an area with high dust and particles in the air.
  4. Ensure your eye protection is in good condition and replace when necessary.

By following these safe working procedures, you can help to decrease the 700,000 work-related eye injuries that occur annually.
