Workplace Safety: Keeping your Employees Healthy!

Workplace health and safety is such an easy thing to put on the backburner or set low on the priority list. When it comes to balancing schedules, production, and day to day operations; the flaw in that is all too apparent when an accident occurs. Accidents, injuries and illnesses are costly for the employer and lead to the reactive approach to workplace safety – which comes with higher costs. But what about the effects of a safe workplace on employees, how do they benefit?
Maintaining and promoting a safe workplace has been shown to increase productivity and quality of work, and leads to decreased stress. It can also reduce absenteeism, and lead to a raise in employee morale. Healthy workers are shown to be more motivated to stay in work, recover from sickness quicker, and are at less risk of long-term illness. Ensuring that your employees are able to return home everyday at the end of their shift without injuries and illnesses will increase their job satisfaction, bring loyalty and dedication, and give the employer a shining reputation – there are even awards out there for companies that maintain a positive safety culture.
By being proactive in workplace health and safety, you can cut down on disrupted work schedules, lost productivity, clean-up and repair, hiring and training replacement workers, bad publicity, time spent on accident investigation, claims management and litigation. But most importantly, by promoting workplace health and safety, you are taking care of your most valuable resources – your employees!
