Halloween is always a fun time for children and parents alike. It’s a time to dress up and go around asking for tricks or a treat (hopefully getting the latter). But with trick or treating comes uncertainty and some concerns from parents on safety for their children. Here are a few tips to keep your trick-or-treaters safe:

• Establish a route for children. Be familiar with the area and surroundings. Be sure that they understand and will follow said route.
• Use crosswalks and flashlights if dark out to be more visible to any motorists. Always look both ways before crossing!
• Stay on the sidewalks, if there are any, to keep away from any motorists.
• Make sure as a parent, and for your children that they never go into any stranger’s homes or get into stranger’s vehicles.
• Make sure to avoid homes without lights on.
• Inspect the candy before any is eaten – anything open or suspicious, throw away or call the police.
• Also, be aware that pets (even your own) might not recognize children in costumes and act differently toward them.
